The Big Reveal

Good morning everyone.  Late, late, late today... I know.  My crazy Bunco friends and I met last night for our monthly game and I went to sleep later than normal.  Coupled with the fact that when I did finally get home, I had to stay up and re-live the Michael Phelps's winning moment.  Amazing!  A fun side note about Bunco... Heather joined the group last night for the first time since moving to Texas and... walked away with virtually all the winnings.  That's never been done before in our group.  So while Phelps was making his own Olympic history, Heather was busy making Bunco history.

Today will be about four things:
  • Revealing Peanut and the Shell
  • Sharing Current Decathlon Standings and,
  • Sharing today's creative idea
  • Announcements
Let's get down to business, so we can make the most of our weekend.

Peanut and Shell:  For all 18 of you who have participated in what I would deem our first and very successful game of Peanut and the Shell, please post your best guess of which highlowaha reader has been sending you treats for the past four weeks.  I'll go first right here and right now, since I have a funny story to tell.  I guess Peggy is the creative person who has been sending me treats.  I feel certain I am correct, because Peggy accidentally revealed herself to me a couple of weeks ago.  She kept sending me treats in the mail (return address and all) and I finally contacted her to ask whether I should be giving them away on the blog.  Naturally, she was confused.  Truth of the matter... her cards are so beautiful and so distinctive, there would have been NO way I wouldn't have guessed anyway.  As for the rest of you... make your guesses.  Once a guess has been made, feel free to verify whether the Peanut or Shell is correct.  Have fun with this and maybe even get creative about how you "reveal."

Decathlon Standings:  Proof that you can move up from behind.  Congratulations, Peggy for winning the Feng Shui Challenge!  Your winning patch is the mail. As for all overall decathlon standings.  Here you go:
Cheryl: 17.1
Stacie: 17.8
Cassie: 18.6
Jayme: 20.8
Tera: 21.3
Julie: 23.5
Kat: 23.7
Peggy: 24.8
AZLori: 25.0
BKRoot: 26.4
Heather:29.5

Sharing Today's Creative Idea:  Creativity is everywhere.  One of the women playing Bunco last night had a coaster made to look like a flip flop.  Her wine glass was slipped in the flip flop, holding the glass in place.  The straps of her flip flop were covered in fun rhinestones, but she described others as having colorful flowers, etc....  Apparently the idea was born when a couple was on a beach vacation.  The couple's cocktail napkins kept flying away, until finally one of them took off her flip flop and slipped their glass inside!  A great idea is born!  You might even take a crack at making some of these, by buying regular flip flops and rounding the back to fit a glass.

Announcements:
  • Welcome back Treye and Maureen.  What I love about his community is when someone leaves for a period of time, the rest of us notice.  Cassie P, ainiowa, Chaotic, and a whole slew of others have been dipping in and out over the past month.  Hopefully you're soaking up your last days of summer and not permanently gone from the highlowaha scene.
  • Make Your Mark:  I think I am going to repost the brief directions for Make your Mark, making it extra easy for you to (1) find, and (2) print off for distribution to friends, family, etc....  As busy as we are, I know you don't want to miss this opportunity to thank an educator who made an impact on your life.  Be motivated by knowing how much you would love to receive one yourself.  I actually did receive one, apropos of this activity, and it felt GREAT.  We are doing a good thing here.

Smells like China in here! :giggle:

Do we have a list of who played Peanut and Shell? I think my Shell was Tera.

or Treye.

Anonymous said...

Ok here goes nothing... I know my return address was Texas which isn't really helpful but my guess is a toss up between Cheryl and Cassie. I am going to go with Cassie. Not to say that I received a pair of "purple boots" in the mail! That would have given it away...

Julie said...

As I've said before, my shell has had me very confused as to who he or she is. I wish I would have counted how many different places I received stuff from - based solely on where the post mark was canceled. Whoever my shell is has elves planted across the country from places such as:
CA, GA, VA, TX (different places), PA and I think NY.

I have two guesses:

Claudia / Dr. B / highlowaha

- or -

Cheryl

I've loved this game!!!!

Anonymous said...

I have no idea who my shell was. Also, I play bunco and I want to know how Heather got all the prizes. We only allow one prize per person. Maybe I would like to join your bunco even though it would be a little far for me travel. I am off to go to a wedding for the day. I will check back in tonight or tomorrow and let my peanut know it was me.

Anonymous said...

I was wondering if everyone could vote on the helping hand project this weekend. We will stop the voting Monday at midnight. Claudia could you remind everyone about this on Monday's blog.

Claudia @ Highlowaha said...

Sue... Our Bunco prizes go to Most Number of Wins, Most Number of Buncos, and Fewest Wins. She got both Most Number of Wins and Most Number of Buncos. Impressive, I know.

Julie...
Though you've narrowed it
down to two
Guess one,
and I reveal to you!

Julie said...

Dr. B, my guess is you!

AND ... I'm officially leaving my apt in Buffalo today ... and heading to my parents' house in Erie ... I'll be back to check later tonight or sometime tomorrow!

Claudia @ Highlowaha said...

Julie, you got it! It was such a pleasure sending you treats! Yikes! There is still one more package that should arrive today. There is no return address, so hopefully you can get it before leaving for good.

Krysten said...

Hi Claudia, I just read your posts and wanted to let you know that I wasn't part of the peanut/shell games and wanted to be but it was too late. I decided to make you my shell because I thought you didn't have one. I was the one sending you gifts but no return address. So I guess you had 2 of us sending you things. I hope you do it again and I can be a part of it "legitimately".
I thought the return address in NY would give it away but I guess you weren't thinking about it.

Hope you enjoyed your presents I had fun!!!

Anonymous said...

Maybe I should stick to Bunco...I'm really not faring well in these creative challenges. I think Boggle should help me out, though I know it certainly won't bring me too far up the list.

I think that Sue is my shell based upon her inside knowledge of all my favorite things...jelly bellies, lotion, etc...

Claudia @ Highlowaha said...

Krysten, YOU are the one! For all of you who don't know (which is everyone, except Maureen), I have been receiving extra special treats from a secret person since the Peanut and Shell game began! I must have - in err - given the impression I didn't have a peanut sending me fun treats. So... Krysten (Maureen's daughter) has been generously sent me some fun items. Krysten.. THANK YOU!!!!!

Your beaded bracelet was great. I am sure Heidi would say you could be off to an illustrious career of beading. As for the beautiful "C" ornament... it is hanging in my craft section (so you know I see it DAILY).

You are your mother's daughter. Generous and thoughtful to the extreme. Thank you!

Cheryl Houston said...

Why didn't I think of Purple Boots! That would have been a perfect item to send you Maureen!

Okay, please clear this up for me. When you are sending items, are you the peanut or the shell?

Brian K. Root said...

Wow... I'm pretty clueless about my peanut/shell person. But, I'll guess Tera?

I could be completely wrong, though....

Ashlee said...

Just a note...I'm going to do my best this next week to do as many of the decathlon challenges as possible, but I'm imagining myself being able to check in very much. I've enjoyed the website the last two weeks and hope to keep popping in every now and then. I'm trying to THINK BIG this year and I will need some new creative ideas in order to do so! I'm not a RISK-TAKER, so I'm also trying to find ways to encourage that in my life!

Anonymous said...

b.k root, you're off the mark
i'm sorry to have to leave you in the dark

you have one more treat coming your way
and attached a note with my identity on display

Cheryl Houston said...

Ashlee and others,

I got my patch this morning for winning the Yin & Yang challenge and it is GREAT! I think everyone should compete in the daily challenges just to try to win the patches! I have got to decide on a pair of jeans now!

The big 2-1!!!!!!

I hope it is wonderful you deserve the best ever!

I do not have any guesses as to who my Shell could be. I didn't receive anything in the mail at all. :-( Maybe it was lost? I really did have a good time being a Peanut though!

Anonymous said...

The only thing I know about my Shell is that she was from TX and I can't even remember where exactly! I know it's not Claudia since I know her penmanship plus Claudia already made her reveal. I really have no idea who my Shell was.

As for my reveal....can we please have a drum roll? (There's a clue for my Peanut!) First of all I tend to go overboard when it comes to these types of "games" and as with everything else really throw myself into it and probably have more fun being the giver than the receiver! My sister, a very good friend of Claudia's, also knows my Peanut (Lori) from ASU. My sister, who also lives in AZ, and her kids were visiting my mom here in the east for a few weeks. When I saw my sister and told her about Peanut and Shell she told me that she knew Lori and so the questions began. I found out that Lori has 2 young boys, is a school teacher, purple is her favorite color. Dawn, my sister, didn't know Lori's favorite sweet snack so I opted to skip including that in the package.

Well this blog is chock full of clues for my Peanut. I'd love to have you guess Lori, before I actually reveal myself.

BTW, there is 1 more "mini" package following the 1 shipped yesterday. I'd guess that by the time you receive and open the very last package you will have a clear idea of who I am given the contents of the package!

Anonymous said...

My peanut is someone incredibly generous and creative from AZ!

Krysten said...

Cheryl.... I knew it was one of you. Thank you sooo much for everything. It was really great now the big question .......The package with the ornament had beautiful artwork on it and us inquiring NY minds want to know was it hand drawn or a stamp? Either way you completely made my day (s). As for the meaning of the peanut here is what the tag says...

SYMBOL OF THE PEANUT
The peanut is a symbol of mystery and anticipation of the Christmas season. Just as a peanut's shell is opened to discover a hidden nut inside, the Christmas season unfolds with many wonderful surprises. In years past, family members would gather to make handmade decorations, with peanuts and other gilded nuts traditionally adorning the Christmas tree.

Also thanks for turning me on to a new Christmas store. I hope I can come to PA and finally meet everyone in person!!!

Peggy said...

Man... I guess a little self pity goes along way... my Feng Shui standing!

And yes, I was Claudia's shell... but tell me people, what would you do if she is the one sponsoring the secret game, but you get her as your peanut... wouldn't she know who I was, since she sent me her peanut info?? Then she starts thanking someone else for sending her gifts, and then I'm like... I'm really confused here, what am I supposed to do?

Okay, how many mothers and daughters are on the blog roll... like I said before, I'm thinking it's somebody with a 'k' or 'c'... two Cassies... right? I'll go back to Cass.... but whoever you are you had me fooled, I couldn't follow the great clues.

Anonymous said...

CHERYL THAT LAST POST WAS FROM ME NOT MY DAUGHTER!!!! SORRY:)

Claudia @ Highlowaha said...

Kat We will assume your treats got lost in the mail. Either way... Highlowaha won't let that happen to you. What do you think folks? Do you have one more small treat in you? Can we all dig deep and muster up one more small treat for Kat sometime in the next week?

I will wait for the go-ahead from Kat allowing me to post her address.

So far we know:
Claudia had Julie
Maureen had Cheryl
javascript:void(0)
That's it. Keep on guessing... or revealing.

Oh, and the person sending is the PEANUT. The person receiving is the SHELL!

Kat said...

I spoke too soon!!! Literally minutes after writing that last comment, the postman showed up on my front porch with a box for me!!! My package is so creative and awesome, that it was most certainly worth the wait. Thank you Shell!

Kat said...

Oh, and I am going to guess that it was from Tera or Katie. That is a very uneducated guess, but I am guessing anyway.

Cheryl Houston said...

Maureen,

It was so fun sending you stuff! I can't believe I didn't send purple boots!!! Have you been on the site at www.bronners.com to see all the great ornaments they have??!! Everyone, if you like Christmas ornaments, check this site out!

As to the drawing around your address, I drew it. I'm glad you liked it because I thought it turned out really cool. I was especially proud that I incorporated the letters HLA in some of the bubbles. :)

Peggy- Claudia had Richard pick the Peanut/Shell combos out but I think anyone getting stuff from you would have known! You have awesome ideas. Claudia was showing us the paperbag memory keeper the other night. Very creative!!

Anonymous said...

i don't know who was my peanut/shell, but i do want to thank you for the recipes (my boys can't wait for me for to start making them) and thank you for the pen and the card and tea bags.

Kat, I did not have you as my peanut...sorry!

My peanut was actually Peggy! I had so much fun sending you things, Peggy! I feel certain the olympic gear helped you in the Feng Shui competition! haha. I'm also glad you enjoyed the clues along the way!

As for who had my name...I'll guess Stacie!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CASSIE P!

Katie said...

Claudia, first can I just say that I love that you put Katie, VA...that just feels so new and fun to me still!

And I also LOVE that you put my mom is in Ohio! Don't you forget it!!!

Kat said...

Layne was my peanut! You have one more small thing to send you, Layne. I meant to get it to you last week, Sorry!

Anonymous said...

Kat ~ my heart was pounding when I read your first comment. Then, I had a big sigh of relief after your 2nd comment. I'm so glad you received your package. It took WAY longer then expected. I'm so sorry.

I have mailed 2 more since that one went out and hope they arrive soon. Plus, I have plans for 1 more.

It may come out here who I am but if not, the last package will reveal the truth.

Anonymous said...

Cheryl, TX
Chaotic, TX
Heather, TX
Cassie, TX

So, it's one of you four ladies! Hmmmm....I'm gonna completely take a stab in the dark here and say Heather. Yes? No? Not sure my strategy, b/c I really don't have one, like I said, just taking a stab.

Also, since I am waaay behind on HLA blogs and such I was hoping I could find out exactly where and when you, Claudia, were coming to Philadelphia? I meant to mark my calendar and simply forgot. Anyway, really looking forward to seeing and meeting everyone!

Anonymous said...

Heidi,
No...unfortunately I wasn't your shell...(or peanut) or whichever it is.
Keep guessing!

Katie, I agree seeing Heather, TX is a little crazy for me too! I also noticed your Mom was listed as OH which I got a kick out of too!

Anonymous said...

Oooohhhhh.... Heidi. Not sure where you got your clues, but I think your peanut told me who SHE was. If I am remembering correctly, you are COLD! Very cold!

Yes, Sue. So, you're not confused... I've been conditioned to believe that, in fact, NORTHERN KENTUCKY is not really Kentucky and that it is much more like Cincinnati, OHIO.

In fact, first time I visited Northern, Kentucky I was told to pack my passport.

Claudia

Anonymous said...

I'm guessing Cassie was my shell, but not for any reason in particular beyond a stab in the dark from the TX contingent! Thanks, whoever you are out there... I loved my fun packages!

Katie said...

All I have to say is that Heather and I have taught you well, Claudia!

Anonymous said...

I never played the postage game so my guess was always just a feeling and I was going to guess Julie. So Now I'm clueless. I actually have no idea but to say that this person gets me! Not only did I get fun postcards, coffee stuff, summer stuff and stuff for organizing but the kids got a treat too! My sweet shell put lots of thought and work into the packages and I would love for my shell to keep being my shell. So.. I'm not going to guess I'm just going to get my new "work with me people." mug and enjoy the rest of my afternoon!
Thank you shell for thinking of me and my family.
Oh and the mailman, Mailman Ray, keep asking if It’s my birthday!
Fun!

Anonymous said...

F.Y.I.
If you are my peanut and you received all of your packages then you will now know that you are my peanut. So, did you get them all?

Anonymous said...

I haven't received ANY clues so I'm sort of at a disadvantage as to who my Shell might be. Like I said, I was really taking a stab, simply a guess. So I'm down to 3 more guesses. Is it Chaotic? BTW, I'm soooo curious about your name!

Anonymous said...

I'm going to guess Amy or Peggy was my peanut. Because on my last package it said from your shell-y. I'm taking that 'y' as a sign but I could be wrong.

Anonymous said...

OK shell,
The only clue I can think of is the sprinkles. I heard that they are a signature item for you. So with that I know you must be female. I'll guess Heidi?? Am I close?

Anonymous said...

Ohhhhh, wait a minute....my goodness could you have BEEN any more obvious w/ your clues?!?! Wow, sometimes if something isn't directly in front of my face I miss it altogether!! Okay, so we're headed up north! DOH!

So it's either Julie or Maureen. Not sure how TX got stuck in my head, or maybe someone was trying to fool me, maybe my Shell was being very clever. Who knows?? Then again what is one's idea of COLD weather? Oh well, so my first, or it's actually my 3rd guess (in the north that is) will be Maureen. That's my guess for the moment (and I'm sticking to it, ha ha!)

Anonymous said...

Nope Cassie, it's not me! Guess again!

Brian K. Root said...

My clue to my Shell is this -- you've yet to post your guess here in the HLA comments.

The end.

Peggy said...

So, Katie=cspgradstudent????? Okay, so that is kinda unfair having two names.... but I was right about the name starting with a K and the C ...and your mom is Sue?? Who did I send the card to in Kentucky????

(I'm saying this in an all joking blonde way )
Okay, Secondly... where was it stated that Claudia's husband Richard picked the names for this game??? The tube it came in had Claudia's return address on it, and the little I saw of her hand writing, I thought she wrote up the peanut/shell "picked" name on the brown layered paper.... I was so confused how to play the game having the host be the person I 'secretly' had to send the gifts too! Plus I sent Claudia cards she ordered and I had to save some how on that high cost of postage.

Did you get the fuzzy slippers???

Katie said...

Yes, Peggy...I was your shell!

You were right about the C and the K...and yes, my mother is Sue.

You actually sent the card to my parent's address in Kentucky! As of 3 weeks ago, that is where I lived, but I tried to throw you off because that's no longer where I live!

Anonymous said...

So it pays to actually read these blogs before posting and potentially making a fool out of oneself (or in my case, just another chance to laugh at myself! However now I'm more confused than ever since I had "Peanut" and "Shell" completely mixed up as far as who is who. So Maureen didn't have my name. My next guess is Julie. Is it you?? In any event, this has been a blast and I'll keep on guessing until my Peanut, or is it my Shell decides to reveal.

Cheryl Houston said...

Peggy- It wasn't posted on the site that Richard picked. Claudia told me that in conversation when we were chatting about the game starting. She of course got the game going but she didn't know who everybody had. :)

Heidi- we're coming to Philly on Sat, Sept 6th. Hope to see you there!

Anonymous said...

Kat,
Thank you again for all the things that you had sent.
And Katie(cspgradstudent), I was your Peanut/Shell I hope you enjoy the recipes and I hope that you liked the magnetic pads w/pens. If I find anymore fun and easy recipes to make i will send them to you i will also keep my eye out for creative and fun stickers and pads.

Anonymous said...

Heather you are right I was your peanut. It was so easy getting things for you since I had Katie to give me ideas. Heather and Katie I live in KY not Ohio even thought you two think this is funny. I still do not have any idea who was my peanut.

Claudia @ Highlowaha said...

Maureen... are you out there? Your shell made a guess. Have you revealed who you have been sending your treats to?

All these posts have made me confused. I might actually have to bust out Richard's master list which has been tucked away since the beginning of the game.

azlori said...

OK...I'm going to make my guess....with the hints left in one of the posts I'm going to guess Heidi Furgeson...I know that was Dawn's last name before she got married and since my packages came from PA and she's from PA...I'm goign with Heidi...final answer!
I have loved what I have received so far...my cd and gift card for my "ice tea fix" are too awesome...i enjoy my music while drinking my ice tea..usually on the way to soccer practice with my son! The little cards are awesome as I am always try and keep cards handy for those spur of the moment thank you or pick me up note to my co-workers. Thank you for all that and the other fun items! It is exciting knowing that there is something else coming! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Anonymous said...

Amy....are you going to make a guess? It's pretty easy given Claudia's list of participants and locations! There is more to come because I just mailed a couple items on Friday. Let me know when you get them!

Anonymous said...

Awesome guess, Lori! Glad you're rocking out to the Kid Rock CD. I had such a blast shopping for the treats and trinkets, packaging them and then shipping all the way to you in AZ!! I'd never visited the dollar bins at Target until I was shopping for your things and WOW.....the items are WAY better then any dollar store around here. It was fun sharing the Peanut/Shell excitement w/ Dawn and her kids.
Anyway, so you'll know it's me when you receive the next package and definitely the one after that. I'll be sending your final "mini" package by Tuesday.

Enjoy your Sunday!

Anonymous said...

HEIDI.... Sorry I didn't get back to you but I have Vertigo and staring at the computer was impossible today. Yes I was your Peanut, and I had a great time. I didnt play the postage game because I didnt think about it at first. Fortunately for me you werent paying attention to the postmark anyway LOL! I hope you enjoyed receiving as much as I enjoyed giving. Maybe I will see you in PA.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for all the P/S goodies, Maureen! Hope you do come to Philly, it's a GREAT city!

Anonymous said...

Been out of town for the weekend, but just wanted to THANK YOU, Cassie, for the awesome packages waiting for me when I got home!! You're such an awesome shell, and you make me feel like a total slacker of a shell to my sweet peanut, who only got a couple of small items from me... and late in the game, at that. Jayme, I'm your Shell-y. Just trying to be clever with that--it wasn't meant as a clue, but way to guess anyway. Hope we can all play this again sometime!

Anonymous said...

Sue Posted::: Heather and Katie, I live in KY not Ohio even thought you two think this is funny. I still do not have any idea who was my peanut.

I was even more confused just now when I saw the list because I was sending to Sue in KY but saw Sue listed in OH... so THANK YOU for clearing up THAT little bit of mud! I was afraid I'd been at it all wrong!!
