I'm Watching You!

You know what else is fun about Halloween?

It's filled with mystery.  At Halloween you can leave anonymous notes and treats for people and it somehow fits into the spirit of the holiday.  Here's an admission.  When I was in my late 20's and early 30s I would use Halloweens to send an a cryptic message to someone I was admiring from afar.  Sometimes it would be letters cut from a magazine, sometimes a note written in code or written mirror backwards.  Each year one recipient and always employing a different tactic.  It was fun.  I never revealed myself, because that wasn't the point.  Instead, I took simple pleasure in believing I was making someone feel important.  I've gotten a secret admirer note or two in my life time and it feels good to know someone recognizes your for something they see as unique.

This year I made cookies.  I plan on packaging them in small boxes and leaving the small bundles around town.  One will go to the cafeteria worker who makes my boys lunches every day with a note that says, "I'm watching you and you make a difference."   Another will read, "Eye spy someone hardworking
," and will go to the dedicated swim coach who spends every afternoon with my oldest son.  A third box might be left in particular chair at "my" Starbucks, where the same woman shows up every morning, 15 minutes after me, to enjoy a Venti coffee, a cup of ice water, and a snack.  I'm not sure what her note will say yet, but I've still got a few days to think about it.  Who knows... f you live in town, one might just show up on your door step!

By the way... I got the idea for these cookies from ping pong balls painted to look like blood shot eye balls.  I loved them when I saw them.  In fact, I bought two bags of the eyeballs, so I could fill a vase with them and use it as a centerpiece.  What could be simpler?  Round cookies, white icing, and then decorated with black, blue, and red.

Do you have a trick or treat up your sleeve that you will use to recognize someone deserving in your community?  Tell us about it.

"Trick or Treat, smell my feet!" I plan to fill fun socks with candy for my staff.

As far as the pumpkin carving pictures are concerned, if you need an extension, let me know!

We haven't carved pumpkins yet... mmm, don't know if we will... I'll have to bring them in and un-freeze them.

I love the eyeball cookies... now that I work at an Ophthalmology office (eye surgeon)... we got some cookies like that a few weeks ago, without the blood shot!!! They put some type of coating over the pupil... we in the office had fun disecting them like a cataract or a contact lense.

I've been sending out unsigned cards (then they in turn can send the card on)and mailing them to friends across the country... not as a trick.... but a simple hello to let them know I'm thinking of them

My son carved two really great pumpkins about 3 weeks ago. Did he listen when I told him they would rot? NOOOOO!!!! And what did they do??? Yes the did!!! Maybe I will get a pumpkin for Krysten to carve but I am not so sure I will get to it.

I spent the day in bed yesterday!! I was sick. I then got out at about 7PM and finished sewing Melissa's costume. I will send a pic. She's gonna look so good.

Claudia I left you a message I have info on the shirts and I need to ask you something. I figured that you never got the message or you did and havent had time to call me back. I will talk to you soon.

Everyone else have a great day:)

Sorry to hear you aren't feeling well, Maureen. That's a bummer! Hope you are on the mend.

Those cookies are hilarious!

We carved our pumpkins last night. Drew had a vision from something he saw on tv but unfortunately he just wasn't able to communicate exactly what he saw... I did my best but he told me it wasn't it. Tonight we're roasting the seeds.

No tricks (or treats) up my sleeves. There just isn't enough time in my day. I still have to finish costumes. Oh well. Maybe next year I'll buy the darn things and I'll make time to bake cookies. :)

Come on, people, where are we at this week?!

I have a number in my head right now between 6 and 25. The person to post that # comment, for example the person to post after me will be #6, will win a package from me!

Let's hear your trick or treat ideas for Halloween!

I found the most adorable little pumpkin baskets at Michael's that I bought for $1. The kids and I made spiders out of black pom poms and pipe cleaners then glued them to a mini-clothes pin. We clipped the spider onto the basket and filled it with goodies for the teachers. It was cute and very inexpensive.

I love the "Trick or Treat, smell my feet!" idea. That is funny! I may steal that one for next year!

I'm back from the "lurkers" world again ....

And I must say, Cassie P ... I admire your attempt ... so much so that I have to copy it!

I'd have to say that this year I'm probably in the least "Halloween" spirit that I've ever been in .... and I'm pretty sure its just b/c I am not physically surrounded by people who are excited for Halloween.

However, one of my best friends and myself had two fabulous costumes last year ... and they were both home made, and relatively simple to make.

We decided to both do a play on words ... I was a "Deviled Egg" and she was "Holy $h!t" ...

... I took 2 pieces of white poster board and made a "body sign" connected with two shoe laces over my shoulders, took some yellow construction paper and made the front piece look like a fried egg, attached a devil tail to the back, and wore a set of devil horns. She made herself a "tube" out of brown felt, stuffed it, attached wings to the back, and wore a halo. Needless to say, we got a lot of compliments when we went out that night!

You two are cheaters...but I love you both nevertheless! Anyone else want to post and take the chance that they are the lucky number between 6 and 25?

Julie said...

Dear Katie,

#1. I hope the number you were thinking of wasn't 16 ;)

#2. I tried to call you to tell you this, but I got your voice mail ... I think there's a fine line between cheating and maximizing your potential ... and Cassie P and I are both maximizing our potentials.

#3. I love you too!

ok, julie, you totally took 5 numbers, and i only took 4!!! :-P

Claudia @ Highlowaha said...

I'll take a stab at it. I have no idea where I am in the line up of numbers and I don't know that I have anything new to offer.

Hmmmmmm... let me think...

Today my boys got a great package in the mail from my mom. It was so much fun for them to open. Pumpkin flash lights were a big hit, as were the Halloween edition gold fish and the Halloween books.

Oh, and tonight we dropped some eyeballs on doorsteps around town. Ricky dropped them off and Matthew called the house to leave the scary message. We had fun.

you are all such fun

i think i must try to compete as well

I have to say that I was coming home from work tonight at 7pm and was sad because it was SO dark...and I know that in a week 7pm will actually be 6pm...ARGH! I love fall but I hate when the daylight goes away.

Anonymous said...

And #23...the # I wanted since I know it is one of Katie's favorites.

Katie said...

And the lucky winner is Heather.... 15 + 4 + 1= 20...the lucky number for today! Ricky + Matthew + Jack! The boys were on my mind today and were my motivation to choose that number!

Heather, your package will be on your way to you next week!

DARN! lol

Katie,
I'll defer my package for the offer discussed via email.

Sound like a plan?

CKB,
Maybe the email I sent earlier can be my random act from apple bobbing?

Claudia @ Highlowaha said...

That's cool, Katie. I will pass your "formula" on to the boys. It will make them smile and feel important.

Heather... yes, consider my final Random Act completed. That leaves only Brian and his apple filled with inspirational quotes.

Keep the faith, Brian.

Katie.. thanks for taking the initiative to jump start our little community. It's what I love about this group.

Katie said...

You're welcome! I just want to give back to a community who gives so much to me! Give the boys some hugs from me!!

OMG. It's 11:33pm. And y'all are all on here late! It was busy at work today and I forgot to click the little box that sends me messages when you guys post. I'm addicted to Word Challenge on Facebook. And flair. And My Farm.

The boys and I received some scary eyeball cookies on our door step! Isn't that crazy. We were working on homework when we got a spooky message! As I was opening the door I thought about the horror movies. This is always when they kill you!

What is Heather getting that was in an email? Inquiring minds want to know!

Must take shower. Must get sleep!
