and for that I am glad
For, to be here alone
would surely be sad.
Von Oech suggests
that to whack what we think
Change things up
with sox, either red or pink.
So now that our thinking
has surely been whacked
The seal on the dilemma
can finally be cracked.
To fully understand
and assure we don't fail
Take a minute to read
a delivery of mail.
So... since I posted my first blog yesterday I spent last evening thinking about what I would actually do if I won the $74. Here are my thoughts... If I had won, I would divide the $74 by 5 and purchase 15 $5 Starbucks giftcards for 15 highlowaha readers and send it to them in some creative format. This would commemorate the 100 written blogs at Starbucks and celebrate the great readership. Even though I didn't win, the offer is on the table if there's a way that you can think of to incorporate it into the blog. I can also take 15 random addresses you may have from the readership and anonymously send a giftcard to them. I, of course, would use my own money, not yours.
Sitting at my desk eating watermelon and dreaming BIG.
The author of this mail,
is a mystery to me
My only clue,
are initials P.P.D.C
Her offer is one
We must accept
It's"how" at which
you must be adept.
Fifteen cards,
five dollars each
Best solution
for maximum reach.
So whack your thinking
and make a post
We will determine
which works the most.
This poem never ending
might fill you with sorrow
I'll oblige you by
signing off until tomorrow...

that's really cute..wish i had one too.
Ok I'll start us off with the first post of the evening. It's been a fun day all the way around. A quick explanation of the pictures...
Katie and I whacked our thinking all day long. I started by wearing tacky yellow socks with my blue and white cropped pants and brown sandals. A vision of beauty!
We ate ice cream for lunch. Katie had her VERY first banana split.
We ran a million errands all day long, but allowed ourselves to get lost and take all kinds of twists and turns along the way. One such stop...
You go it... the Girl Scout store. I actually got the chance to sit down with Riki Malott (the Membership Specialist for the Northeast Region). She hooked me up with all kinds of names and contacts! While there, Katie and I bought patches to commemorate Katie's very first banana split. We want to start sashes. More about that later!
How did all this fun whack our thinking? Eating sundaes for lunch sent us to a part of town I don't normally frequent. Allowing ourselves to explore and "get lost" led us the Girl Scout store. The Girl Scout store made us think of earning patches. Our idea...
Come one step closer to earning a Random Acts of Kindness patch by supplying us the name of some who can use a "PERK." PPDC will send $5 giftcards to the first 15 names submitted.
Now, how was your thinking whacked today and what is your idea for how the 15 cards can be distributed?
Is online free lottery your first spam comment?
i'm distracted... let me think on the coffee cards. I have to do the whole dinner thing...
Hide some of the $5 cards in the books that you leave in Starbucks. It will be an extra special surprise.
It's a special way to do something nice for others without expecting anything in return.
By the way, trying to check the computer after dinner is different for me - with Matt not home and the kids running crazy, it may not be happening again for a while.
Have a great night.
I think online free lottery is...in fact our first spam comment on highlowaha (maybe the blog got w"hacked" this Wednesday as well.
As far as PPDC's offer it seems this blog reader is wanting to send them to 15 highlowaha readers not just random people so here is my idea. The first 15 highlowaha readers who "catch the spirit" and post their own random act of kindness will be sent a starbucks card.
(I think Maureen and Tera's recent submissions should count!)
Another potential idea (and one I actually like better) is to send the 15 cards to the first 15 readers who volunteer to use them to create a random acts chain at their local starbucks. I forget the reader who posted the story about the one starbucks who kept a chain going for hours on end where one patron bought the next a drink and so on and so forth. It could be a highlowaha contest to see who can get the longest chain going.
CKB also forgot to mention that she and Katie whacked their thinking by traveling all over town checking out apartments and daycares for me...it was MUCH appreciated!
I think Claudia should pull 15 postcards from her stash and those should be the "winner" of the gift cards.
I am drawing a blank.
I was thinking of maybe using the cards to put towards a trade up towards the plane ticket. Maybe making a basket of goodies and put the cards in.
how about asking the "ALMIGHTY KNOWING ONE" ..... your mom!
Claudia, I love the Girl Scout store. You should see my girls vests( sashes dont hold enough). Earning patches are so much fun!!
I think it came from Peggy (the card lady).
As for the Gift cards. Cheryl and Katie for their work on the USA thing.
Maureen for the flowers, Heather to start her move off on the right foot.
One to the first person to every post on HLA.
Anon for all the comments.
Helena for the hosting Flat Stanley first.
Wendy for donating her wine charms.
I picked these eight because they have had a big impact on HLA. That only eight so I'll keep thinking.
Ellen (I think that where you got it) for the color book.
That's 9.
STILL NO FLAT STANLEY IN BUFFALO NEW YORK!!! He's been missing quite a lot of travel opportunities with me ... Helena ... are you out there? Are you sending him my way?
